Avery’s Landscape ‘n Stonework
Since the business concept also required additional financing, Deb and Avery knew that they would have to complete a business plan. Their first stop was with the Door County Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC). The SBDC has a long-standing partnership with DCEDC to provide a business plan writing course annually. Deb and Avery were urged to attend, applied for the program, and were accepted.
Deb and Avery successfully completed a 12-week, 30-hour business plan writing course and met with SBDC Business Counselor Chuck Brys on a regular schedule. They received over twenty hours of counseling time, which helped them write their business plan and submit it to a financial institution for business financing.
With the help of the SBDC, their plan became stronger, with a more focused strategic direction. They have analyzed their markets and their industry, their competition and their financial overviews and projections for three years and put all of it into a concise, directed business plan.
Subsequently, their business plan was a finalist for a county-wide business plan competition in Door County, Wisconsin. They also received a $750 tuition reimbursement from the Wisconsin Department of Commerce for completing the business plan writing course and submitting an approved business plan.
With just two months into the start of their business, Deb and Avery are surpassing their monthly revenue projections by almost double. They have a full list of potential clients, and with Chuck’s assistance, have finalized their marketing strategies and planned for sustainable growth over the next three years.
Both clients are hearing impaired, and yet did not let this disability stop them from actively pursuing their dream of owning their own business.
