FORT COLLINS - Mary Fischer, director of the Larimer Small Business Development Center, is the 2008 winner of the Colorado SBDC Network State Star award for leading Colorado's small business centers in meeting goals and recruiting volunteers.
The Larimer SBDC's services include one-on-one business counseling, low-cost workshops on business-related topics, help in identifying potential financing, and help in networking with local, state, and federal resources.
The center last year provided 551 counseling sessions for a total of 1,268 counseling hours and delivered 65 training classes which were attended by 780 participants. It was responsible for $3.9 million in capital formation, created 60 jobs, retained 70 jobs and created an increase in sales of $1.5 million.

The center's use of a large corps of volunteers to provide counseling in all areas of business development led to a No. 1 ranking in Colorado for return on investment of Small Business Administration dollars.
The Larimer SBDC gets funding from the SBA and Front Range Community College. The center next month also will assume the day-to-day duties and responsibilities of the Loveland Center for Business Development, which will continue to be funded by the city of Loveland.
