On Your Side: Some small biz owners search for help
An arm of the University of Georgia, the SBDC helps about 250 small businesses each year in the Augusta area. They give them the resources they need and direct them to other funding sources besides banks.
Differing outlooks for small businesses
Two separate surveys have painted differing pictures of the small business landscape in Western Australia with one finding business conditions have deteriorated while the other found owners were generally optimistic.
Sensis and the Small Business Development Corporation WA today released their findings after interviewing small businesses in the state.
The SBDC's small business expectations for 2010 survey was conducted in December last year, and indicated that business confidence levels had significantly improved on the previous year's survey.
The survey found business owners were generally more upbeat with 76 per cent of respondents expected sales and revenue to rise in 2010, compared with 39 per cent in 2009.
WSBE offers new online courses through the NH SBDC

The Whittemore School of Business and Economics has helped to expand opportunities for small businesses looking to increase their knowledge in the areas of manufacturing assistance, environmental compliance, and economic and technology development, through the New Hampshire Small Business Development Center (NH SBDC).
According to Mary Collins, state director of the program, the NH SBDC is an outreach program of UNH’s Whittemore School of Business and Economics and is supported by a partnership program with the US Small Business Administration, the New Hampshire Department of Resources and Economic Development (DRED), and the private sector, all of which provide sources of funding for the center.
The NH SBDC has launched the online course “Starting a Business in New Hampshire,” one of more than 20 free online courses that are available to entrepreneurs. NH SBDC’s main goal is to reach as many New Hampshire entrepreneurs throughout the state as possible and to provide them with timely information and tools on a daily basis, using SBDCs e-Learning courses.
Yogurt store to open in April

Both she and husband Brent have tasted a lot of yogurt, heavily researched the tasty treat in the past few months, and are in the process of opening a yogurt store — Yogurt Journey — in April.
The business will be located at 3808 Kemp, Suite C, near Golden Corral and in the same complex with Big 5.
Idaho Small Business Development Center reports growth for its clients
Idaho Small Business Development Center clients grew sales at a rate that was more than 10 times that of the average Idaho business, according to the center's annual impact report for 2009.
The SBDC said its report measures the success of its efforts to assist small businesses.
Employment growth for SBDC clients was positive with 135 new jobs created and 838 jobs saved, said the center, which is headquartered at Boise State University.
