Nonprofit Information Resources

The following are Internet links to information on fundraising, management, starting a nonprofit business, and other interests to nonprofit information seekers. The independent sector employs 10.9 million workers, where health services represented the 49% of total annual revenue in 1997.* Just less than half of the adult population volunteered an average of 3.6 hours per week in 2000.** The Independent Sector organization has placed an hourly value on the time volunteered, which has risen from $15.40 to $16.05 in 2001, based on the average hourly earnings for private nonagricultural workers (BLS), plus 12% for estimated fringe benefits.**

The Nonprofit Pathfinder is updated weekly by the Independent Sector, who organize resources for scholars and practioners within four categories: innovation, measuring impact, research resources and bibliographies.

The Nonprofit Resource Center presents a "learning more" section on nonprofits and lists numerous examples of tax-exempt organizations. The "find a book" section will direct one to useful publications. Additional information is found under five major categories: legal and board of directors, support organizations, finance/accounting/general management, fundraising, and marketing/people management.

http://nccs.urban.org/ National Center for Charitable Statistics (NCCS) offers data for each state and online filing of IRS 990.

http://www.philanthropy.com/stats/ Paid subscribers can track top charity fund raisers, annual corporate and foundation giving, giving ranked by state, and the compensation of directors and benefits for employees.

This program offers workshop, consulting and publishing services aimed at improving non-profit leaders. Includes an extensive FAQ section along with the most comprehensive publishing material on Non-Profits.

Internet Non-Profit Information Center http://www.nonprofit-info.org/
Provides a wealth of informative information on starting and running a non-profit organization. INC contains a library and FAQ section on a wide range of topics. The site also contains a directory of non-profit organizations registered with IRS.

Independent Sector http://www.independentsector.org/
News, Public policy, Industry, and other information including statistical information from the IS survey on Giving and Volunteering in the United States.
